Cape Neddick
One of Maine's many beautiful lighthouses.
Cape Neddick, or "Nubble" Light, is one of Maine's many beautiful lighthouses that dot the coastline. This lighthouse, located on Cape Neddick near the entrance to York River, has a very similar look to many other lighthouses. While each structure is unique in it's own way, cape Neddick consists of a white tower with a white keeper's house and a red roof. There is also an oil house that was built in 1902, a storage building and a boathouse built in 1978. The station was established in 1879 with the light being automated in 1987. The tower is made of cast iron and bricks and produces a three second red flash alternating with three seconds of darkness. While the lighthouse is not open to the public, it is owned and operated by the U.S. Coast Guard and can be seen clearly from Sohier Park which offers free parking.
