Victoria Mansion (Morse-Libby House) is one of the greatest historic houses and collections of the Victorian period anywhere in America. Built 1858-60 for New Orleans hoteleir Ruggles Morse as a summer house, the Mansion’s interiors, coordinated entirely by leading New York designer Gustave Herter, still boast over 90% of their original contents, including furniture, stained glass, painted wall decorations, spectacular gas lighting fixtures, porcelain, and textiles. The stunning Italianate building, designed by Henry Austin of New Haven, CT is elegantly clad in brownstone quarried from Portland, Ct. Unparalleled in its craftsmanship and remarkable state of preservation, Victoria Mansion allows visitors to step back in to the Victorian era for an afternoon.
